THE PLOT:
The United States has beaten Russia to the moon in the great space race and make a shocking discovry, that the United States
nor Russia is the first men to walk on the moon, but England. Decades before they even started.
They find one of the astronaughts in an old folks home and he tells the story of how he and Kate, a girl gets roped into
an incredible journey to the moon with a acienctist who disovered a anti-gravity metal. But the moon isn't a barren wasteland,
it's inahabitied by space insects.
ZEDD'S OPINION:
I got to admit that Lionel Jeffries of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG fame does a great job in this movie as the doctor who invents
the space probe. There is allot of cool things in this movie, including the space monsters created by Ray Harryhausen. Another
great movie from the master of monsters. The story works and the cast does a bang up job. Now for the only major complaint
I have, the Selenites are cool. But the Selenites in the costumes are a tad wider then the Selenites Ray creates. You can
tell the difference between the costume and the effects. But it's still a cool movie and you will have fun with the first
men in the moon, 8 STARS
VOLTRON'S OPINION:
Now I must agree, I've been doing that allot today. But I can't argue with the truth. FIRST MEN IN THE MOON is a classic
up there with FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON and they way the makers adapted it to the screen makes some sense. I can't argue
with what works. 8 STARS as well.
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ STORY (The story is plausable.)
+ CAST (The cast does a great job.)
+ EFFECTS (Most impressive effects.)
+ ACTING (Supurb acting.)
+ CREATURES (Ray has done it again.)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- COSTUME VS. EFFECTS (You can tell the difference between the cotume and the effects.)
...AND FINALLY...
- NOT FOR EVERYONE (If you don't like alien movies, then this isn't for you.)
