THE PLOT:
While digging a new Subway, humanoid remains were found dating back five million years old. But along with the prehistoric
bones lays a stange object, that the military assumes is some kind of bomb. But when the object isn't ticking or have any
apparent way into it, that's when they call in Bernard Quatermass, explainer of the unexplained and expert on alien objects.
While investigating they discover that something like this happened once before during the Nazi Blitz and ghostly demons
were reported. Now with the ship open the contents are alien insects and the ghostly demons are making another appearence
and this time could destroy all of London in a sea of madness and murder.
ZEDD'S OPINION:
Okay, now there is allot to like about this movie. The cast does a fantastic job, the wire work for flying objects is done
well and the demons what you see of them is impressive. But dumb question, is it the ghosts of the dead alien crew possessing
people or is it the ship's computer causing the mass insanity and if so why? What would be the point of causing the human
race to kill themselves, the bugs are long dead, so they can't repopulate the Earth. Plus, I for a party of one would like
to have seen more the bugs in motion other in in flashback form. I saw this when I was a kid and was not impressed. But seeing
it through the eyes of an adult I can see how some might like it and I think it's okay, not great, just okay. Plus, it also
drags at points. 6 STARS.
VOLTRON'S OPINION:
I could not disagree more. Sure Zedd makes some valid points, but I feel it was the ship causing all the trouble unaware
that the crew was dead and yes it would have been nice to see the bugs move. But I think the suttle grace of the movie works
and there is some intense action. It makes you wonder about what life on Mars was like and was it war that wiped them out?
9 STARS.
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ EFFECTS (The effects are pretty impressive.)
+ STORY (The story works.)
+ CHARACTERS (The characters are well written.)
+ MARS THEORY (Interesting theory of Mars fate.)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- SLOW PACE (It got draggy at times.)
- CONFUSING (Was it the ship and if so why?)
- MORE BUGS (We both would love to have seen more of the bugs.)
...AND FINALLY...
- FAN BASED (If you aren't into Quatermass movies, then this isn't the movie for you.)
